Essential Functions

The Academic Advisor will be responsible for advising and is critical to the success of students enrolled in the Division of Continuing Studies, Bachelor of Multidisciplinary Studies (BMS) degree program. Assist current and prospective students using face to face communication, phone, email and online advising methods. Advise students on the requirements of the BMS Degree and assist students with short and long-term planning. Monitor progress of BMS students to include graduation and evaluation of all forms of transfer credit. Evaluate academic transcripts, military training transcripts, and American Council on Education (ACE) transcripts for appropriate placement into the BMS Degree. Inform students of support services, administrative processes, and other academic programs at UNO. Maintain student files, monitor degree audits and write documentation letters for students. Participate in strategic planning, continuing reviews and modifications of the BMS degree program, professional development, and special projects. May involve data analysis, reports and presentations. Serve on University, College, and Division committees.

Work Schedule Typically M-F, 8a-5p. Additional hours as need.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in a relevant field of study.
Must have outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written, and have the ability to work independently on multiple tasks that require attention at the same time. Must be capable of prioritizing tasks. Must be able to assess a situation to achieve the best outcome for all involved. Must be able to work with confidential information in appropriate manner. Must have ability to work independently and in groups in a variety of technological formats. Ability to create and maintain trusting relationships with students and departmental units. Must be able to work effectively with diverse populations, including students, faculty, and staff. Must be extremely detail-oriented. Must have the ability to work with a complex degree program and make decisions independently or with guidance from others in the unit.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in an academic setting working with college/university students and/or adult learners. (May consider a combination of relevant education/experience)
